Dr. Eduardo Schuch is the Chairman, Group Chief Executive and a founding partner of Black Opal.  He has been instrumental in developing and creating the enormous opportunity for the company to become the dominant market force in Brazilian farming and agriculture.  Dr. Schuch grew up in the most traditional cattle state in Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul. He also serves as the Senior Partner of Schuch Law. 

 

With his law firm he has worked on enterprises with big law firms in Brazil. Dr. Schuch has led his team on some of the country’s most important law cases. He has just won one of the most important agriculture law suits in Brazilian history defending one of his clients. Additionally, Dr. Schuch was the lead lawyer for several big enterprises that included mergers and acquisitions, designing and implementing corporate structures, as well as other agriculture and environmental deals. Dr. Schuch also works in a pro bono charity in Brazil, Charitie Instituto, helping poor people to access the Legal System.

 

Dr. Schuch is also a second generation expert in the thoroughbred industry, including breeding, linage, pedigrees and farms. He serves as a general legal counsel for one of the largest horse racing associations in Brazil.

 

Dr. Schuch matriculated from the Law School of Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in 2002 and then earned his Master of Law degree at Universidade de Sao Paulo in 2008. Furthermore, he earned his LL.M (Latin Legum Magister, which means Master of Laws) in Environmental and Agriculture Business at Fundação Getúlio Vargas in 2012. 

 

In addition, Dr. Schuch attended in 2016 the senior executive program at world renowned Kellogg School of Management “Finance for Executives”. The immersive program in finance expressly for executive decision-makers in non-finance functions. In a highly collaborative and supportive learning environment, the program focusses on a comprehensive view of shareholder value creation and the key role executives play in the process. With a heavy emphasis on real-life case examples, the program is a hands-on experience interpreting financial reports, evaluating investments, applying valuation methods and exploring the implications of strategic decisions on cash flow and stock price.

 

Dr. Schuch has been a member of the Brazilian Bar Association since 2002.
