BLACK OPAL´S GENETICS IMPLANTED IN RIO GRANDE DEL SUL

Bage, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, November 2016: Black Opals recipient cows were implanted with embryos imported from the United States, to create an elite breeding herd in-country and provide superior genetics to the local Allied Producers and strategic alliances.

The cows were implanted in Fazenda Santo Antonio, the Genetics Operation of Black Opal, located in Rio Negro, near the town of Bagé, and bordering with the Republic of Uruguay. An intensive pasture management system is used to provide consistent high-quality feed throughout the year.

Embryo transfer (ET) maximizes the value of female and male genetics. Whereas artificial insemination (AI) exploits the semen of genetically superior bulls.  ET has major advantages to rapidly creating and increasing seed stock quality.

The breeding program of Black Opal is market-driven, as their genetics are chosen based on the specific need of the end users. The genetics provided are balanced in traits and designed to produce good females, bulls, and steers. Matings are designed using the most advanced genomic (genotyping and sequencing of the DNA) performance testing and indexes in the world to improve quality, predictability, and profitability.

“With the right genetics, the meat that we will produce will be top quality and will satisfy the growing beef demand for Premium Angus Beef” said Jay Ewald, CEO, of the Black Opal Group.
